James Lappin

James is an influential speaker and writer on SharePoint and on records management His blog ‘Thinking Records (www.thinkingrecords.co.uk) is one of the most influential, thought provoking and provocative blogs in the world of records and document management. His blogposts assessing the records management functionality of SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2007 have both been read by thousands of people around the world.

The Records Management Journal published his influential article ‘What will be the next records management orthodoxy’ in December 2010. He spoke at the 2010 Online Information Conference about the impact of SharePoint on information professionals. The Records Management Association of Australia published his article ‘The impact of SharePoint 2007 on the world of records management’ in their 2009 Information and Records Management Annual (iRMA 2009).

In 2009 and 2010 James advised the UK Houses of Parliament on managing the relationship between their project to implement SharePoint and their project to implement an EDRM (electronic document and records management) system.

James is an accredited trainer for the European Commission, and has been providing English language records management training for their staff since 2006. His courses explain the Commission’s EDRMS (a Documentum based system), and its relationship to other information systems within the Commission, such as their SharePoint based intranet; the Commission’s many line of business systems; and shared network drives.

James has extensive experience of training both implementers and end users of EDRM (electronic document and records management) systems.
